“The secret to success is to start engaging with your audience on social media from the get-go.” – Kat Sullivan (8:36 – 8:40)
Like most success stories, Kat didn’t start out as an in-demand marketing expert. She was on track to a successful career in corporate finance. But that came to a halt when she and her husband lost their jobs after the economic collapse of 2008. On top of that, she found out she was pregnant the day she lost her job.
Kat refused to let circumstances control her life. She decided she had to do something that allowed her to stay home while she prepared to become a new mom. She started blogging about her pregnancy. That changed her life.
Thousands of people started reading what she had to say, and her blog took off. She started getting attention from companies that wanted to reach her audience. She collaborated with big names like Walmart, Disney, and Mattel, taking her business and reputation to a whole new level.
The Secret to Kat’s Success
People often want to know how Kat achieved so much within a short amount of time. It turns out that social media was the secret to her success. She got started on social media early.
In 2010, not every business had a Facebook page. But Kat recognized the power of social media early on. She set up a Facebook page for her blog and engaged with her audience on a regular basis.
The best part was that she was just being herself and authentically sharing her pregnancy experience. That’s the power of social media: It lets you earn money just for being yourself.
“What comes easily and effortlessly to you? How could you be making money with it? Social media can help you do that.” – Diane Forster (11:04 – 11:13)
